I meet Vincent Van Gogh for the first time
It was 1952. I found myself with my buddy Mac, in Chinatown, taking refuge under a limousine while a horde of tuxedo clad Chinese bayed for my blood.
My class at what was then called the Army Language School had just graduated. We were all Korean linguists and though we had tried hard to get sent to Germany, the Air Force prevailed and we were all on our way to Korea.
It was the first day of the “explosives” section of our guerrilla warfare training. A ‘secret’ base somewhere south of Washington, DC. A bright day of Carolina sunshine … … (whoops, I shouldn’t have said that.)
